Ryde East Community Association won the bid to organise Ryde Regatta on behalf of Ryde Town Council. We undertook all arrangements regarding the Regatta, working in Partnership with Ryde Rotary Club and Ryde Lions.
The fee that RECA received for organising the event, went straight back in to the community to keep the doors open at The Park Community Centre.
The 2010 event was a great success (even if we do say so ourselves!), with fabulous reviews. The team look forward to working on more events in the future
RECA was commissioned by Medina Housing to undertake a large gardening project based in School Street in Ryde. The Project involved turning the communal areas of the estate in to welcoming, inspiring places for local residents to spend their spare time.
Nine gardens were created from scratch, from chocolate box country garden to contemporary Japanese style spaces. The Project was completed by a large scale seat sculpture by local artist Paul Sivell which is situated on the communal green, surrounding a sapling Oak Tree which will be part of the School Street landscape for many years to come.
The monies received for managing this project, again went straight back in to the community to assure the Park Centre remains open for local people.
In the Summer of 2008 two community workers based at RECA decided to create a large scale community celebration. After consulting local residents, it was apparent that there was a great need for a community spirited project. The Isle of Wight Community Renaissance Festival was borne!
By the time the 2009 event was held, over 200 volunteers were on board, sharing skills, helping each other and working together for one goal: A large party where everyone was invited!
Since that event, the Isle of Wight Community Renaissance Festival has raised nearly £5,000 for local charities. A 2012 event is now in planning, if you would like to get involved, there are many opportunities, from event planning to site co-ordination and stewarding on the actual day - please get in touch.
