What's it all about?
There's nothing we like more at The Park than hearing a great idea and helping someone to make it happen.
Sherrie Gibbs, had a great idea.
In 2019, Sherrie lost her grandmother, and to help process her grief, she turned to books. She found that reading quietened her mind and changed her life.
She then wondered if books might help other people going through difficult times, and so
thought about creating a free book borrowing or swap library. She contacted The Park to see if we'd be interested in giving it a try and the rest is history!
Three years later and it's a great success, books appear from lots of different people. An entire collection of Roald Dahl's children's books were donated from a retired English teacher, another bag full of classic novels from Shakespeare to Dickens was dropped off by a regular user at the centre. You'll find everything on the shelves from Fifty Shades of Grey to Jodi Picoult, plant maintenance, cookery books to comic books. It's all here. The community of The Park have really embraced the concept, they bring, they swop and then they return the ones they've read. And it's all free. The Book Nook really is the ultimate recycle, reuse reading circle and fully epitomises the ethos of The Park.
Come and give it a try. If you'd like to donate some books, then bring them into the centre or contact us for a collection if there's too many to carry!
